Our mission for the Educational Outreach Program is to help homeless children use education to break the cycle of poverty by providing essential educational supports. Our primary objective is to remove educational barriers that prevent homeless children from having a successful school experience.

EOP identified and assisted 1,741 students during 2010-2011. This is 13% more students identified than last school year. Over 300 students were unaccompanied youth and not with their parent or guardian.

We focus on two main areas: School Readiness and Student Success

  • transportation

  • free lunch

  • backpack/school supplies

  • clothing

  • resource referrals

  • and other needs

November 2011- We greatly thank Great Harvest Bread for their almost $3,000 donation to EOP from the Growing Brains fundraiser.  Thanks for providing DPS homeless students the sales from the day!  Also, thanks to so many community members that purchased bread and donated it back to DPS students.  We provided the bread to our Lowry site to accompany the weekend backpack food program.  This is the 6th year Great Harvest Bread has donated to EOP!  They are an amazing local and delicious bread and sandwhich shop located at Colorado and Exposition.  Check 'em out!!

October 2011- Many thanks to the ERC 2011 Global Workforce Symposium for their 1,800 educational school supply packs for EOP students.  Attendees packed these amazing packs on October 13th during the conference.  They purchased all the supplies instead of having a night out in Denver.  We thank you all who participated from all over the U.S. for this wonderful donation!  Most of the packs already went out to our highest need schools!ERC 2011 Global Workforce Symposium

9/16/2011- we would like to thank ULA (United Launch Alliance) for their amazing and super fun outreach to EOP!  On Friday, September 16, 2011 about 20 motorcycle riders came from all over the metro Denver area to a NE DPS school and delivered brand new backpacks and school supplies!  Each rider donated supplies to our partner program Colorado Youth for A Change for unaccompanied older homeless teens.  This will greatly help them be prepared for school!  This is the second year of this great and fun generosity from ULA!  Thanks so much!  Your kindness makes a *BIG* difference to our students and Denver community!ULA bikes and backpacks:

We extend a HUGE thanks to our summer camp collaboration this 2011 summer.  Over 60 EOP kids particpated in summer camps run by Camp Hero (Casa Beacons), Mi Casa at Lake, and Denver Camp at Smedley.  We appreciate all the staff that faciliated amazing programs!  We also thank all the students and parents that participated and hope you had a great time!  Many thanks to DPS Extended Learning for writing the grant that made so much of this possible!
